The quality of the Nexus 6P camera seems to be getting better and better with each passing Android update. I wanted to put together a selection of shots showcasing how well this Huawei device can capture images in different lighting conditions.
I got the camera in the beginning of 2016 -- it's my second Android phone. On a recent trip to Tulum, Mexico, I decided to just bring a 50mm prime for my Nikon DSLR and leave the other camera lenses at home. The Nexus 6P camera, which shoots pretty wide, is just that good.
All of these shots were taken with the default Google camera app and processed with the VSCO app. You'll notice how well the Nexus 6P handles contrasty light while keeping details in the shadows. With the HDR function on, I was able to bring back a lot of color in the skies throughout all of the shots.
This shot in San Francisco in the late afternoon shows how much detail you can keep in the highs. I was able to keep details in the bridge, sky, and water without too much hassle.
The Nexus 6P wide-angle performed well on this well-known San Francisco staircase. I continue to be amazed at how much detail this camera can capture. Shadows aren't too heavy while maintaining even color balance.
If you're like me, you like to carry your DSLR around, but also like the opportunity to travel light and use your smartphone. What smartphone camera and do you use to capture photos?
